Hello my name is Alfie, and I’m a gorgeous Blue & Gold Macaw of uncertain age, I’ve been in Birdline for about 10 years, but due to no fault of my own I’ve had to move to a new home.
At the moment I live with another macaw and an African grey. I don’t pay much interest in them, but I do like to have a wander in and out of their cages given half a chance! I am much more people orientated. I love interacting with my safehouse family, and am happy observing from a distance men, women and older children too. I let both my safehouse mum and dad clean my cage!
My safehouse family think I’m really entertaining. I say “hello” and “shut up” and will whisper first thing in the morning or at night. I save my big voice for the daytime. I especially love to sing, dance and whistle, and enjoy it even more if you join in with me! I can cough like an old man, which had my safehouse mum really worried until she realised I was just mimicking my previous owner.
Despite loving human interaction, I really do not like to be touched or sprayed with water and I will bite and scream like I’m about to be murdered if you attempt it. But, I’m really a very good boy and I don’t bite unless you cross my boundaries. Mainly I just hang out in or on my cage. I don’t really like going back into my cage, but I am open to being bribed with my favourite treats. I also give a loud scream if I think my food bowl needs refilling, or I’m fancying a bit of something you are eating.
My safehouse mum thinks I would be best in a home where someone is at home most of the time as this is what I am used to. Whilst I don’t mind children, I will give a warning lunge and bite for people to stay away, so interaction with children should be supervised at all times. My safehouse family will really miss me, but it’s time for me to find my forever home – could it be with you?
