Description

Hello there, bird enthusiasts we are Louie and Jojo, two charming feathered friends, Louie is a Rainbow Lorikeet, approximately 8 years old, while Jojo is a Sunset Lorikeet, around 3 years old. These avian buddies have quite the tale to tell, having come into Birdline separately but forming a strong bond that must be preserved.

Their Home and Happiness

Louie and Jojo have found a lovely big cage that they call home. With daily time outside the cage to play, fresh nectar, water, and even cardboard boxes to chew on, they are two content birds. These lorikeets don’t require excessive human interaction because they’re quite taken with each other’s company. However, they do enjoy some attention and chatter with people.

They are relatively quiet birds. Louie says “Hello Louie” and Jojo also says his name and ‘What you doin’ and other short phrases. Jojo will whistle and call if Louie has vanished from sight.

Louie, the friendlier bird of the pair, is known to come over for a head scratch. He and Jojo can often be found hopping around the floor, curiously exploring their surroundings. Together they love to entertain by dancing, whistling, and hopping about, which is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Louie has a particular fondness for a mirror in their cage, which cleverly serves as a means to coax them back inside. Show him his mirror and tap it at the bottom of the cage, and they’ll both happily return.

Special Traits and Preferences

They require a calm home with male and/or female adults. Jojo has shown a preference towards males but is currently being cared for by a female carer and will accept either with time and effort. They have not had any exposure to young children.

When it comes to interacting with other birds, Louie is quite sociable. However, due to their strong bond, Louie and Jojo tend to keep to themselves, often focused on each other rather than their feathered counterparts.

Hygiene and Dietary Preferences

Louie and Jojo dislike being misted and prefer bathing in a water dish or a bowl.

Their diet is another essential aspect of their care. They thrive on Aves Lorinectar, which must be provided daily. Additionally, they relish fresh fruits and vegetables like apples, bananas, grapes, carrots, sweetcorn, peas, broccoli, and the occasional walnut.

A Few Challenges Overcome

When JoJo first arrived at Birdline, he displayed some feather loss at the back of his neck due to plucking. However, this issue seems to have resolved over time. Jojo’s behaviours can vary from friendly and welcoming to aggressive and territorial, especially when it comes to food dishes and his bestie Louie. A hormone implant has helped to regulate this behaviour. Despite this, he is a charming lorikeet who can be quite affectionate when he chooses to be and will come and sit with you on occasion.

Finding Their Perfect Home

Louie and Jojo are in search of a calm and happy home with individuals who have the time to let them out to play daily and ensure they are well-fed with their special nectar. They may not demand much attention from their human companions, as they are infatuated with each other’s company, but they will certainly bring joy and entertainment to their new home. If you have the space in your heart and home for this lively pair, they will undoubtedly fill your life with vibrant colours and lots of fun.
